P. Terry’s introduces first new burger in 15 years and opens its third new location in 2020, featuring its COVID-19 dining room design
(AUSTIN, TEXAS - May 19, 2020) Today, P. Terry’s Burger Stand announced the launch of a new, limited time only burger and the opening of their 19th location near the UT campus in Austin, marking the burger concept’s third new location in 2020. The new burger stand features a newly re-designed dining room experience in response to COVID-19.
P. Terry’s is excited to announce the launch of their new Crispy Chicken Burger – their first new burger since the burger stand’s inception in 2005. Beginning today, P. Terry’s Crispy Chicken Burger will be available for a limited time at all 19 burger stands for $4.25 ($7.90 for a combo).
The Crispy Chicken Burger was inspired by P. Terry’s co-founder Patrick Terry and concepted in his kitchen at home. Featuring the concept’s all natural, fresh-ground chicken patty dipped in buttermilk and coated in crunchy panko breadcrumbs, the unique burger is topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo and swiss cheese. A spicy Crispy Chicken Burger is also available by request and includes a spicy mayo, pepper jack cheese and grilled jalapeños. The new burger remains loyal to P. Terry’s commitment of providing all-natural, always fresh, never-frozen products. The crispy chicken patties are ground, formed and breaded in-house each day using 100% all natural chicken breast.
“Several months back, I was playing around with the idea in my kitchen at home,” said co-founder Patrick Terry. “Once my wife Kathy and I felt like we had something we would be proud to serve our family and friends, we then worked with our head chef to perfect the idea for P. Terry’s.”
In addition to its brand new burger launching today, P. Terry’s is also excited to open the doors to its 19th location near the University of Texas at Austin. The MLK location was designed by Michael Hsu and features the concept’s iconic Googie architecture, a patio, dine-in seating and two drive-thru lanes. It’s located at 517 W. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd and is the first P. Terry’s to open its dining room since the start of the coronavirus closures back in March.

At P. Terry’s Burger Stand, we value the importance of quality time together, now more than ever, especially when that means sharing a meal together with family or friends. As the Texas economy begins to reopen, we want to begin supporting the opportunity to once again dine out together. So we have been working tirelessly to redesign and implement new protocols to help ensure the safety of our guests and crew members.
In addition to providing contactless service offerings and sanitized payment processing, we’ve made several changes to the operations of our dining rooms so that you can safely visit P. Terry’s and sit down for a meal with the people you love. Starting today, the dining room at our 517 W. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd location will be open. This will be a test to help us learn and understand the best way to safely serve you in our dining rooms. In the coming weeks we will gradually open additional dining room locations as we feel ready. I encourage you to check our website (www.pterrys.com) for the very latest on hours of operations and open dining rooms by location. When guests dine in at our new MLK burger stand they can expect to see floor markings instructing safe social distancing throughout the restaurant, fewer dining tables with greater spacing between them, and clear acrylic shields at cashier stations to protect both our guests and our crew. There will be new guidance regarding our self-serve beverage station, condiment station and restrooms. We will also be sanitizing tables and chairs after each use, making hand sanitizer available to our guests as they enter the building, and creating single points of entry and exit where possible. Like we do with our crews, we will require our guests to be in face coverings to enter and move around the dining room area. Masks should only be removed while you’re seated at your table eating. If some of our guests are not comfortable wearing a mask in our burger stands, we understand and encourage them to utilize our drive-thru or delivery services through Favor and DoorDash.
We understand some of what we are asking may feel awkward or extreme at first. But in the end, this is about friends and neighbors coming together in a way we can all feel safe and comfortable. So we ask that our guests respect our guidelines and respect each other as we navigate together this new way of dining. From our family to yours, we are honored to gradually begin welcoming you back into our dining rooms and we look forward to serving you.
